Comic Ben Miller has pledged to visit Faversham after admitting he has never been to the town - despite being the new face of one of its most famous exports.

Speaking exclusively to Kent Online, the funnyman, who is one half of double act Armstrong and Miller, revealed he would love to visit Faversham after the pair starred in a new ad for Spitfire ale, which is brewed exclusively in the town.

Kent Online has now offered to take the comedian on a tour of the town to show him what it has to offer.

“I am a huge fan of Kent. I would be deeply offended if you did not now invite me to Faversham..." - Ben Miller

Speaking last night at the launch of Spitfire’s new ad campaign at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the award-winning comedian said: “I am a huge fan of Kent. I would be deeply offended if you did not now invite me to Faversham.”

The Shepherd Neame ale will use Armstrong and Miller for the new TV campaigns in the guise of their 1940s RAF characters from the BAFTA-winning BBC comedy show Armstrong and Miller.

The launch was followed by a performance by music legend Eric Clapton at the famous venue.

The celeb was joined by Shepherd Neame chief executive Jonathan Neame at the ad launch.

Mr Neame, said: “This is hugely important to the town.

“I hope we do our bit to spread the name of Faversham and Kent and Kentish beers all over the world.

“To have two people right at the top of their career and household names is great for us and great for Faversham.”

The ale, which was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, is known for its war-era humour, with previous taglines including Downed all over Kent, Just like the Luftwaffe and No Nazi Aftertaste.

The duo will feature at Spitfire media events for two years, with a new series of TV adverts coming out during the summer.

Kate Maclean, brand manager for Spitfire Ale, said: “We are very excited to have Alexander and Ben’s RAF pilots as our ambassadors.

“Spitfire always been associated with a very British sense of humour and the characters are an excellent fit for the brand’s personality.”
