Crash on A28 Island Road in Sturry causes delays

A busy road was blocked in both directions after a crash left a man trapped in his car.

Traffic on the A28 Island Road in Sturry, near Canterbury, was moving very slowly after an accident at Sleigh Road near Co-op.

The crash, which involved a 4x4 and a van, happened at around 1pm.

Two fire engines were called and used hydraulic equipment to cut the driver of the 4x4 out of his vehicle.

Police attended the scene and diverted vehicles to the A291 Sturry Hill.

The road has been cleared and traffic has returned to normal.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to Sleigh Road, Canterbury at 1.06pm on Tuesday, December 18 following a report of a collision between a 4x4 and a van.

"The driver of the 4x4 was injured and SECAMB were called to treat him.

"The road was closed whilst emergency services worked at the scene."
