GLORIOUS sunshine greeted the hundreds who turned out for Canterbury’s Gay Pride event on Saturday.

Marchers kicked off the day by walking up from the Westgate Gardens waving rainbow flags, blowing whistles and shouting.

The event was officially opened by singer and gay icon Mandy Winters.

It was the second gay pride event in the city and the theme this year was Brokeback Mountain, the Oscar-winning film about gay cowboys, and many of those enjoying the day wore cowboy gear such as pink Stetson hats.
