Ring doorbell shows parcel thief stealing Moonpig Valentine’s Day gifts from outside Canterbury home

A Ring doorbell captured the moment a heartless thief stole a package from a family’s front door – including a little girl’s first Valentine’s card.

Luke Enness and his wife had ordered gifts for their five-month-old daughter to their home in Old Park Avenue, Canterbury.

However, when the parcel was delivered on Wednesday evening, the house was empty, and an opportunistic crook swooped in to steal it.

While Mr Enness was at work, he could see the brazen thief approach his door on their doorbell camera.

Bending down with a bag in one hand, she can then be seen wandering off with a box containing the goods.

Mr Enness told KentOnline it was “quite disheartening” and had shaken his confidence in the area.

“It’s a nicer community than I was raised in but it’s heartbreaking,” said the 26-year-old.

“It has very little physical or monetary value but is very sentimental to us.

“Even if our daughter can’t read, we wanted to make it a special day for her – we want to collect memories of her life.”

The card was customised with pictures of his daughter and some of her favourite things. Mr Enness had also wanted to surprise his wife with flowers from Moonpig.

The couple had hoped the card would help form a memory box of their child’s first events in life, a common trend among parents.

It is understood the incident was reported to police.

Such crimes are becoming an increasing problem in the county thanks to the shift toward e-commerce.

KentOnline previously reported how a man walking along Sandling Road, Maidstone, with his family had been seen grabbing an Amazon package from someone’s doorstep. There was a similar incident in Westgate.

A police spokesperson told KentOnline: “Kent Police was contacted on February 13 and it was reported that a parcel had been stolen from outside a house in Old Park Avenue, Canterbury shortly after 8pm on February 12.

“Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call 01843 222289 quoting reference 46/25689/25.
