A man whose brother was killed in a fatal stabbing almost a decade ago says he is "curious" to watch the story of his death when it airs on TV tonight.
Simon Gorecki and Natasha Sadler-Ellis were murdered by Foster Christian in March 2016 after a row over the temperature of a shower spiralled out of control, and their deaths feature in the second season of Channel 5’s A Killer Makes a Call.
Simon’s brother, Adam Devlin, 55, will watch the episode in honour of the dad-of-three who worked as a fishmonger at Canterbury’s The Good Shed, after moving from east London.
He explained: "I'm of course curious to see the documentary and I'll absolutely watch it as it will be hard not to.
"We've become perhaps a bit more private now as time has progressed though. People say time heals but I don't think it does - you just sort of learn to manage it.”
A Killer Makes a Call focuses on murder cases where the person who alerts the police is in fact the culprit.
Christian, a serial violent offender, claimed in his call that Simon, 47, and Natasha, 40, a mum-of-three, attacked him with a knife after they arrived at his room to complain that he turned water on while Simon was showering in their temporary accommodation in Dickens Avenue, Canterbury.
The former mechanic said he acted in self-defence. He said the knife was his, but later claimed he had grabbed “their knife.”
In fact, Christian, now 62, produced a knife and stabbed Simon five times, of which four were in the back. Natasha also sustained repeated stab wounds, including one above her left eyebrow.
The friends died at the scene.
Natasha’s son, Connaugh Harris, who was 20 at the time, and a boy aged 16 were also injured by Christian.
Christian was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years behind bars for the double murder as well as wounding with intent and unlawfully wounding.
Two women who helped Christian get rid of murder weapons were also jailed.
Each episode of A Killer Makes a Call tells the sequence of events which lead up to the 999 call and then the investigation afterwards to determine the identity of the murderer.
Adam, his mum Sally and younger sister Alice chose not to be involved in the filming of the show. However, one of Simon’s friends, Dean, did have some input into the series.
Adam and Simon, only a year-and-a-half apart in age, were close growing up, sharing a bedroom throughout their childhoods.
Adam told KentOnline: "Time is a funny thing as we come up to nine years since Simon's passing.
"It can play tricks on your mind as in some ways it still feels really raw whereas other times it feels like a lifetime ago.
"As a family, we don't talk about it every time we get together but sometimes we do and certainly on significant dates like Simon's birthday where we are more reflective.
"He loved being a fishmonger when he moved out of London though and I think that was one of the appeals of being down in Kent."
Filming took place in the autumn and saw film crews visit Natasha’s memorial plaque in Margate with her family.
The second season of A Killer Makes a Call begins at 10pm on Channel 5.
