Power cuts leave dozens of homes without electricity in Sturry, Fordwich and Broad Oak

More than 160 homes near Canterbury have been left without electricity after a fault in an overhead power line.

UK Power Networks became aware of the problems just before 9am.

Its engineers have now restored power to 76 properties by diverting power around the fault, but 86 homes in Sturry, Fordwich and Broad Oak are still affected.

Engineers are dealing with the problem, and are providing power using generators.

UK Power Networks says: "There's a lot of work required on site, so we have decided to use temporary generators to provide power.

"To allow time for us to get the generators out to your area and connect them, we're now estimating we'll have power back on between 14.30pm and 15.30."

It is not known whether the problem has been caused by the bad weather.
