A young man airlifted to hospital after crashing into a telegraph pole near Blean has died.

The 22-year-old was taken to Royal London Hospital by air ambulance after his silver Renault Clio hit the pole in Pean Hill on Tuesday, May 21.

He died on Saturday evening.

His family have asked that his name is not released by police.

Detectives are still investigating why the car left the road and have appealed for witnesses who may have been travelling on a bus between Whitstable and Canterbury when the crash happened.

A week after the incident, officers stopped a bus travelling along the road in the hope some passengers may have been witnesses.

Officers also want to speak to occupants of a black vehicle believed to be in the area at the time of the crash.

Residents in Pean Hill say the incident was the latest in a string of crashes along the road, adding talks have taken place to impose new safety measures on the A290.

Witnesses are asked to call DC Dave Holmes on 01622 798538.
