Egg-charge protester due in court

AN ANTI-WAR protester who allegedly threw an egg at the Prime Minister's car in Canterbury is due in court today.

Thomas Redman, 20, of Duck Lane, Canterbury, is charged under the Public Order Act with using threatening, abusive and insulting words or behaviour.

The offence is said to have happened in Palace Street as Tony Blair arrived in the city for the enthronement of Archbishop Rowan Williams on Thursday.

Redman is bailed to appear before magistrates at Margate today.

A second man, who sped past a police cordon outside the King's School entrance in Palace Street on a bike, was arrested by later released without charge.
