He has slashed prices in a clearance sale and the store will close when it is emptied of stock.

Mr Court told KentOnline this morning: "I have come to an end.

"I have been in the leather business for 50 years and I am now 75 so I'm retiring.

"I am killing the prices and there is a queue of customers now for the bargains.

"I will close when there is no more stocks so that may be two months or five to seven weeks."

Mr Court announced the closure last week and he had previously been in charge of 10 branches in the south east such as in Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Gravesend, Bromley and Brighton.

The store is advertised as having the largest selection of leather and sheepskin jackets and coats in the area.

Customers expressed their disappointment at the closure on social media.

One commentator said: "Oh no...sad times."

Another said: "Bought my first leather jacket there when I was 14, thought I was the business in it. The shop has been there a long time, changing times on the high street I suppose."

Mr Court said celebrities have been some of his customers.

He remembers the Canterbury-born actor Orlando Bloom turning up eight to 10 years ago when he was visiting family in the area.
