Ex-Kent captain Cowdrey banned for drink-driving

FORMER Kent and England cricket captain Chris Cowdrey has been banned from driving for 18-months after he admitted drink driving following a business meeting.

Traffic police in Camberley in Surrey stopped the 45-year-old ex-cricketer turned radio pundit after he was seen driving erratically along the A30. Mr Cowdrey, who now lives in Ascot, Berkshire, provided a breath specimen at the scene and was found to have twice the alcohol limit in his blood.

Following his conviction by Woking magistrates Mr Cowdrey was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £1,000.

The son of former Kent and England legend Lord Colin Cowdrey, Chris Cowdrey played 280 matches for Kent in a 15-year career that ended when he left the club in 1991. He won six England Test caps, one of them as captain, as well as three one-day international caps.

He was elected on to Kent County Cricket Club’s cricket committee last year following the death of his father and now runs his own sports consultancy firm.
