Kent weather: Met Office issue yellow warning for ice across county

A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for parts of Kent.

Forecasters have warned icy surfaces could lead to difficult travel conditions across the east of the county after ground temperatures dropped below freezing this morning.

The warning covers areas such as Canterbury, Thanet, Ashford, Dover, Folkestone and Sheerness.

Weather experts say there could be some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

There could also be some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The warning came into force at 4pm yesterday and will last until 10am today.

It comes after several roads flooded across Kent yesterday, after alerts were issued following persistent heavy rainfall.

A more serious warning was added for the Isle of Sheppey and remained in place yesterday evening after the Environment Agency put out a red flood warning.

This meant flooding was expected and immediate action required - for parts of Minster and Warden Bay.

Elsewhere, snow fell in parts of Kent overnight yesterday as increasingly cold and icy conditions set in.

The change of weather led county highways teams to issue safety reminders to drivers bracing the roads to take extra care.
