Factory worker Ricky Prior, 29, died after being hit by a train near Canterbury East

A man killed after being hit by a train near Canterbury East station has been named as Ricky Prior.

It follows the opening of an inquest into the death of the 29-year-old factory worker who lived at Bingley Court in the city.

The hearing was told that his body was discovered on the tracks on the evening of Sunday, January 21 after a train driver reported hitting something around half a mile from the station.

The line was closed for investigation by British Transport Police until early the following morning.

A post mortem revealed he had died from multiple injuries but police say they are no suspicious circumstances.

The inquest was adjourned for further inquiries until May 14.
