Ben Shephard branded a Canterbury student "invincible" after leaving the Tipping Point host astonished by his impressive performance on the show.

Dan Bichener was just 18 when he appeared on the programme, which aired yesterday, and left the presenter in awe of his general knowledge.

The young genius admits he was nervous at the start of the show, but excelled during the quickfire round and managed to confidently push through to the final.

He answered six questions correctly, getting none of the brainteasers wrong.

And his wealth of knowledge left Ben in shock, as he said: "It's like you can't answer anything wrong, Dan. You're invincible."

The journalism student, who studies at Canterbury Christ Church University, has since spoken to KentOnline about his experience.

Dan, now 20, admits he has always enjoyed quizzing and applied to become one of the contestants.

"I didn’t do too much preparation really," he said. "I just had to be confident in what I already knew and it went really well so I was pleased.

"I still watch the show all the time - when I applied and went on the show I was 18.

"It was quite nerve-racking being that young and walking into the studio felt like you were walking into a TV. It was quite an amazing experience really."

During the episode, Dan was about £700 behind the other two contestants before the quickfire round.

"I was a bit worried that I was probably on my way out," he said.

"But then the questions kept coming at me and I got six right.

"Watching the show myself, you don’t see that very often - so in my own head I was really surprised.

"Then Ben made the comments about my performance and I had enough money to go through."

He managed to get through to the final and took home £2,950 - but did not manage to bag the grand prize.

Dan, originally from Essex, hopes his performance will encourage more younger masterminds to appear on Tipping Point and other quiz shows.

"When you get some younger people on these quiz shows, they might have a lot of knowledge on younger things," he added.

"But anybody out there who is my age would hopefully watch it and think that if an 18-year-old can do that, get to the final and impress Ben Shephard like that, they would want to do the same."

Tipping Point airs at 4pm on weekdays on ITV.
