Kent artist Jason deCaires Taylor creates haunting migrant sculptures off the coast of Lanzarote

A former graffiti artist turned international sculptor is exhibiting his latest work highlighting the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean.

Jason deCaires Taylor has built a global reputation for his underwater creations with his work featured at locations across the world.

His latest pieces, 14 metres below the water off the coast of Lanzarote, Spain, focus on migrants making the perilous journey from north Africa to Europe.

Taylor, 41, grew up in Canterbury and attended the now defunct Chaucer Technology College in the 1980s.

He has a sculpture called Alluvia, featuring two female swimmers, visible in the River Stour next to the Westgate Towers.
