A street artist dubbed “Kent’s Banksy” has painted a tribute to a famous wandering cat who was hit by a car.
Catman, an elusive graffiti artist from Whitstable, has sprayed an image of Gallivanting Griffin in Northgate, Canterbury.
Griffin, a grey-and-white rescue, died on October 6 after being run over on the University of Kent campus, where he loved to visit.
Thousands of fans, who followed his dedicated Facebook page, expressed their heartbreak at the adventurous moggie’s death.
So loved was the former stray, £3,500 has been raised in a fundraiser by his owner, Rachel Craft, to fund a memorial bench in the university grounds.
Catman posted a photo of his latest artwork on social media today.
He said: “A little painting paying tribute to Canterbury’s notorious Gallivanting Griffin.
“Painted at Northgate next to the Penny Theatre.”
Lovers of the pet have called the street art “amazing”, “beautiful”, and “absolutely wonderful”.
Griffin was also known as the Sainsbury’s cat, as he was often seen in the supermarket’s Kingsmead branch.
He was also spotted regularly at the university, in Westgate Gardens and in the Millers Arms pub.
