Southeastern bosses say all lines between Ashford International and Canterbury West were blocked following the incident this morning.

Officials from the firm said: "Sadly a person has been hit by a train.

"Trains between Ashford and Ramsgate will be diverted via Dover Priory where possible.

"You can use tickets at no extra cost on Stagecoach bus routes 1 and 9."

Chartham villagers also reported seeing an air ambulance in the area.

"I've never seen so many.

"There's no access in or out for residents."

Southeastern announced just before 1.45pm that the line through Canterbury West has since reopened.

Trains are expected to start moving again just after 1.50pm.
