Canterbury: Orlando Bloom's Lord of the Rings arrow to appear at prop auction

An arrow fired by actor Orlando Bloom in the Lord of the Rings films is among the Hollywood items due to go on sale at a major prop auction.

The Lothlorien bolt, held by the Canterbury-born star, is expected to fetch between £8,000 and £10,000 when it goes under the hammer.

It is among dozens of iconic items due to be sold, including Han Solo's jacket from Star Wars classic The Empire Strikes Back, which is predicted to sell for £1 million.

The auction, organised by Prop Store, is being held at London’s BFI IMAX on Thursday, September 20, and will be presented by the Odeon cinema group.

It will also feature Indiana Jones' signature fedora and Marty Mcfly's Back to the Future hoverboard.

Proceeds from the sale of a Stromtropper helmet from last year's film, The Last Jedi, are set to total up to £50,000, and will be donated to children's charity the NSPCC.

Hollywood heartthrob Bloom, who was born and raised in east Kent, found fame playing Legolas in the Oscar-winning trilogy.

He made his stage debut at Canterbury's Marlowe Theatre and also collected an honorary degree from the University of Kent in 2010.

The 41-year-old has since appeared in a range of hit Hollywood blockbusters, such as the Pirates of the Caribbean films, The Hobbit and Zulu.

Auction items will be on display at a free exhibition at the BFI IMAX in Waterloo, London.

It will open daily between 10am and 9.30pm between Thursday, September 6 and Thursday, September 20.
