Kent Air Ambulance called to Canterbury after man hit by bus near New Dover Road

Air ambulance crews were called after a man was hit by a single-decker bus in Canterbury city centre.

The victim, in his 30s, is thought to have been struck on the busy St George's Place, which leads into New Dover Road.

Emergency crews treated the victim and police sealed off the road between St George's roundabout and the junction of Lower Chantry Lane. It has since been re-opened.

Canterbury Baptist Church minister Doug Waller said: "It had just happened when I arrived at the church and I saw the front of the bus windscreen had been smashed so it looked pretty serious.

"I think the ambulance took the man away to the air ambulance which had landed at St Augustine's Abbey.

"Emergency services are still at the scene and part of the pavement and road have been taped off by police and accident investigators. The road has also been closed.

"We brought tea to the people helping at the scene and have said a prayer for the victim and the bus driver who is no doubt traumatised by it."
