Canterbury man, 89, dies in crash with suspected drug driver near Sandwich

An 89-year-old man has died following a car crash involving a suspected drug driver.

Police revealed today the victim from Canterbury died following the collision on the Sandwich Road at Woodnesborough, near Sandwich, shortly after 8pm on Sunday.

It involved a white Mercedes A180 and a black Skoda Fabia, driven by the pensioner.

An 18-year-old from Canterbury was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving, dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

He has been released while inquiries continue.

Both drivers suffered injuries in the collision at the junction with Chalkpit Lane.

The pensioner was taken to a London hospital, where he died last night.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit want to hear from anyone who saw either of the vehicles before or during the collision.

They would also like to look at any dashcam footage during that time.
