When police arrived at The Avenue, the man is understood to have absconded, prompting the force to scour the village.

He was soon located in The Sycamore, a side street in the village’s centre.

A police spokeswoman said: “The suspect was not at the scene when officers arrived, but following a search, he was located nearby and arrested.

“The 36-year-old was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and remains in custody.”
