Man dies after being hit by car on A28 in Chartham

A man has died after being hit by car.

The pedestrian was knocked down by a silver Renault Clio car in Ashford Road in Chartham just after 4.30pm yesterday.

He suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

The car was travelling towards Canterbury at the time.

The road was closed for more than five hours in the aftermath, and traffic was diverted.

The incident happened at the junction near Mansfields fruit farm - the scene of another tragedy last May, when student Christopher Innes was knocked down by a van and killed.

Police have issued an appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage to call the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538 quoting RY/NR/15/19.
