Man in 20s dies after being hit by car on A2 near Canterbury

A man in his 20s has died after he was hit by a car on the A2 which led to the road being closed for more than six hours overnight.

The accident happened shortly before midnight as two men crossed the carriageway near Dunkirk, close to Canterbury.

One of them was struck by a silver Mercedes A180 on the coastbound stretch.

The driver remained at the scene after the incident.

Kent Police was called at 11.51pm and arrived along with crews from the ambulance service.

The man was taken to a local hospital but later died.

The victim’s next of kin has been informed.

Officers are appealing for witnesses - and asking the second pedestrian to get in touch.
