Match-winner Philip awarded cricket kit

A YOUNG batsman who produced the outstanding performance of the season in the Canterbury Under-15 Indoor Cricket League has been rewarded by his club.

Canterbury's Philip Walker scored 86 not out in his side's one wicket victory over Vikings in November. For much of the innings the 14-year-old was at the crease knowing his dismissal would lose the match.

Asked to score 122, Canterbury slumped to 40 for five before Walker seized centre stage with a superb knock which carried Canterbury to victory with one ball remaining.

The innings was the highest in the history of the league and to mark his achievement Canterbury presented Walker with some kit.
