JULIAN BRAZIER: taking Foreign Office advice

KENT MP Julian Brazier has cancelled a proposed trip to Iran next week following Foreign Office security concerns.

The Canterbury and Whitstable MP, who is shadow minister of state for transport, aviation and shipping, was to have made a three-day visit to Tehran.

Mr Brazier was scheduled to arrive in the capital on Monday but has been advised to abandon his plans as diplomats attempt to find a solution to Iran’s nuclear crisis.

The MP had hoped to meet Iran’s political leaders and examine the Iranian nuclear debate at first hand.

Mr Brazier, who believes in the need for regular dialogue with the Islamic world on the nuclear weapons and human rights issues, has been reminded by the Foreign Office of the need for extreme caution in Iran.

There have been a series of violent demonstrations outside the British Embassy in Tehran over the past three years and the FO warns of “further incidents possible.”
