Nine Canterbury teenagers arrested after altercation between two groups in St George's Street

Nine teenagers have been arrested after two groups clashed in a high street.

One 18-year-old has been charged in connection with the violent disorder in St George's Street, Canterbury.

Meanwhile a 15-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon - a chair leg.

It comes after police were called at 3pm on Wednesday to a report of two groups of teenagers involved in an altercation in the city centre.

A further six boys, aged between 14 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

And a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of failing to leave the area when directed.

Charlie Golding, 18, of Kemsing Gardens, Canterbury, was charged today with a public order offence in which he is accused of using or threatening unlawful violence with others to cause fear.

He remains in custody and is due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court today.

The other eight boys - all from Canterbury - have been released on bail pending further investigation.
