Canterbury police appeal after window of moving bus smashed in Sturry Road

The window of a moving bus has been smashed in broad daylight - sparking a police appeal for witnesses to come forward.

The vehicle was travelling along Sturry Road, Canterbury, towards the city centre when the incident happened at about 10.50am on Monday.

The Triangle route bus was just passing South Street when an unknown object was thrown at it, shattering a side window on its lower deck, by the doors.

Stagecoach says the incident is being taken "very seriously".

A spokesman said: "We're here to serve our community and although no one was harmed in this incident, it's extremely disappointing that someone would target a bus in this way.

"We have a zero tolerance approach to attacks, threats and vandalism and we're working closely with the police who are taking this incident very seriously.

"It's possible that whoever was responsible didn't fully understand how serious their actions could be.

"We would urge anyone with any information to contact the police."

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened, including a person who was seen walking their dog in South Street at the time.

They are also appealing for anyone who may have captured the incident on their dashcam or doorbell camera to get in touch.

The incident comes after part of Stagecoach's popular Triangle bus route in Herne Bay was declared a no-go zone last year, after mindless vandals smashed bus windows four nights in one week.

In 2019, a woman was left with glass embedded in her face when yobs smashed the window of a bus she travelling on in Hales Place, Canterbury.
