A28 Ashford Road between Canterbury and Ashford shut due to overturned lorry

A road between Canterbury and Ashford has been shut due to an overturned lorry.

The A28 Ashford Road, between Branch Road in Chilham and The Street in Godmersham, has been shut in both directions as emergency services deal with the incident.

Drivers are warned to expect very slow traffic in the area.

Police spokesman Scarlet Drayson said: "Kent Police is attending a report of an overturned lorry, which lost its load on the A28 Canterbury Road in Chilham.

"Officers were called to the road near the junction with Pope Street at 8.31am.

"The South East Coast Ambulance service has also been called. The road is currently closed while work is ongoing to clear the carriageway and recover the vehicle."

The crash follows another incident on the stretch of road which happened yesterday just before 8.20pm.

Firefighters were called to Ashford Road in Chilham to a car on its side with a woman trapped inside.

Crews used a short extension ladder to help free her.
