A pervert who sexually abused young girls has been jailed for nine years.

John Earnshaw’s victims told in statements read to Maidstone Crown Court how they had been deeply affected by his behaviour.

Earnshaw, 45, of no fixed address admitted six charges of indecent assault and four of indecency with a child.

The offences were committed in the Faversham area several years ago.

One of the victims said she now found it difficult to have intimate relationships because of the "lasting memories" of what she was subjected to by Earnshaw.

"I feel angry about what he did to me," said her statement.

Another victim said: "Life has been very hard for me. I have suffered depression badly. I worry about having children.

"I feel I have never had the chance to be myself, because he ruined my life. He changed the person I am."

Louise Oakley, defending, said the only mitigation was Earnshaw’s guilty pleas, which meant the victims did not have to go through the ordeal of having to give evidence at a trial.

"He has set out that he deserves to serve a custodial sentence," said Miss Oakley.

"There is an acceptance of guilt. He is ashamed and disgusted at his behaviour."

Judge Jeremy Gold QC said it was clear Earnshaw’s offending had a significant and permanent effect on the victims’ lives.

"You are, I am sure, ashamed of your behaviour," he said.

Earnshaw’s name will appear on the sex offenders’ register for life and he will be banned from working with children and having unsupervised contact with young girls.
