Southeastern trains cancelled after police called to man on Farleigh bridge near Canterbury West station

Trains were cancelled last night after police were called to reports of a man on a bridge over the tracks.

Police and medics were seen in Farleigh Road, Canterbury , which goes over the railway line.

Power to the lines through Canterbury West was turned off.

Trains were unable to run through the station, meaning services between Ashford and Ramsgate via the Canterbury station were cancelled .

Rail replacement buses were put in place.

An eyewitness told KentOnline they saw the man on the bridge at about 5.45pm and called 999.

Police and an ambulance were still at the scene at 8.20pm.

Southeastern tweeted at 8.40pm: "Emergency services have dealt with the incident at #CanterburyWest, we're working to clear the line so it can reopen.

"Trains will be delayed and may be altered or cancelled whilst we work to return the service to normal.

They later added: "Power to the line has been restored at #CanterburyWest following an emergency services incident."

A spokesman for British Transport Police has since confirmed the man was taken to a place of safety.
