12-year-old Olivia Sands missing from Barham near Canterbury

Police and the fire service are conducting a large-scale search operation for a missing 12-year-old.

Olivia Sands was last seen in Barham, near Canterbury, at around 10am this morning and officers are concerned for her welfare.

She is around 4ft 5ins, of thin build and wears glasses.

It is believed she was wearing a black, padded coat with a fur-trimmed hood when she was last seen.

The police appeal has been widely circulated on social media, with many expressing concern and hope for her safe return.

At least 10 police and search and rescue officers have been scouring the banks of the Nailbourne river, with a helicopter looking from the air.

A sniffer dog and reportedly a drone have aided the effort, which has also seen officers investigating derelict buildings.

Anyone who has information is asked to call Kent Police on 101, quoting reference 17-0583.
