Prominent trio of Canterbury city centre shops up for sale

A Grade II-listed block of shops occupied by three national chains is being auctioned with a freehold guide price of £2.8 million.

The premises at 8-9 The Parade in the centre of Canterbury is currently rented by The Flight Centre, Hotel Chocolat and Between the Lines.

The lot is among 180 listed for sale by Clive Emson, the land and property auctioneers, ahead of its sale on October 29.

Currently, the three business pay a total of £235,000 in rent per annum but there are parts of the building that are vacant.

John Stockey, auctioneer, said: "This is a substantial premises and is situated in the centre of the city, benefitting from high foot-fall.

"It has three national retail chains and surplus areas on the upper parts.

"Clearly this lot will attract investors. It might be possible to re-organise the accommodation as long as all necessary consents are obtainable."

Another investment opportunity in Canterbury at the sale is George Turle House at 54, London Road.

It has a freehold guide price of £920,000 and is currently let at £148,583 per annum to the North East Foundation Trust.

The auction is being held at 11am on Monday, October 29 at the Clive Emson Conference Centre, Kent County Showground, Detling.
