Public loos up for sale

DISUSED public toilets in Canterbury and Herne Bay will be put up for sale or lease, councillors have decided. Members of the property and engineering sub-committee voted to place conveniences in Broad Street and Knotts Lane, Canterbury, and Fleetwood Avenue and the Memorial Park, Herne Bay, on the market.

At the meeting, the city council's Labour leader Ron Pepper said: "This is not the end of the line for the great loo saga." Plans to install self-cleaning "super-loos" were still to be looked at at a later date, he said.

The closure of numerous public toilets across the district has angered many residents in the area.
