Gillingham man, 22, accused of rape in Canterbury

A man has been arrested after a woman reported being raped in an alley in a city centre.

The woman is alleged to have been attacked the victim near Stour Street, Canterbury, in the early hours of Sunday by a man she had met earlier in the evening.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have arrested a 22-year-old man from Gillingham.

He has been released pending further investigation.

Officers have been carrying out inquiries, including a review of CCTV and forensic opportunities, in a number of locations - including Gas Lane, Greyfriars Cottages Road and The Tannery.
