Suspect charged after early hours assault in St Peter’s Street, Canterbury left man in hospital

A suspect has been charged after an early hours assault left a man in his 60s in hospital.

Police were called at 1.10am on Saturday, March 29 to reports of a disturbance involving a group of people in St Peter’s Street, Canterbury.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended, and a man in his 60s was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

In the early hours of yesterday (Friday), officers travelled to the home address of Billy Brazil in Leatherhead, Surrey, where he was arrested in connection with the incident.

Mr Brazil, 30, of Chester Road, has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court today (Saturday).

He was released on bail and will next appear at Canterbury Crown Court on May 6.
