Police officer suffers facial injuries as two men arrested for assault in Canterbury

Three police officers were set upon in a high street attack which left one with facial injuries.

Two men were charged with seven offences following the brawl in Canterbury city centre on Saturday.

Both were arrested at the scene at about 10.15pm before appearing before magistrates yesterday.

Stanley Pinto, 25, pleaded guilty to four counts of assault of an officer, criminal damage and possession of a bladed article.

Pinto, of Thornton Heath, Surrey, was remanded in custody and will appear at crown court for sentencing on a date to be determined.

Aaron Shomade, 24, of Hallswelle Road, Golders Green, north London, pleaded not guilty to assaulting an officer and was bailed to appear at Margate Magistrates' Court next month.
