Trains not running between Canterbury East and Selling after lorry crashes into Wincheap bridge

A lorry has crashed into a bridge near a Canterbury railway station, halting trains.

The vehicle has collided with the bridge at Wincheap, near to Canterbury East station.

Passengers are currently being turned away.

Police were called to the scene at 1.15pm, and officers helped to clear the road. No injuries were reported.

Southeastern tweeted: "At the moment, trains can't run between Canterbury East and Selling, whilst we wait for Network Rail engineers to assess the issue.

"To help you complete your journey, you may use your ticket at no extra cost on Stagecoach South East Buses between Faversham and Dover via Canterbury East."

The disruption is expected to last until about 2.30pm.

Stagecoach South East says park and ride buses from Wincheap are being diverted to and from the city, and warned passengers to expect delays.
