Man arrested after going on rail tracks at Canterbury West

Train journeys were affected today while police removed a trespasser from the rail tracks.

Power was cut off when the man was discovered near Canterbury West railway station.

Services between Ashford and Ramsgate via Canterbury were delayed as officers moved in.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "A male has been arrested at Canterbury West for trespass after he went down onto the tracks causing Southeastern to stop trains and turn the power off."

Southeastern said the trespasser was spotted at 11am.

A spokesman said: "Power to the lines at Canterbury West has been restored after British Transport Police dealt with a trespasser on the line.

"Some services which run between Ashford and Ramsgate via Canterbury West have been delayed and may be revised while we work to get them back on time."
