Two men face modern slavery charges after arrest in Canterbury

Two men are due in court charged with modern slavery offences after allegedly using a 16-year-old boy to deal drugs.

Javarni McPherson, 21, of Peckham Park Road in London, and Trevis Abiola, 21, of High Street in Orpington, were arrested in Canterbury on July 1.

They were both charged with human trafficking and being concerned in the supply of cocaine and heroin.

McPherson was also charged with driving while under the influence of drugs.

They both pleaded not guilty to the offences at Medway Magistrates' Court and are now due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, July 31.

These are the first modern slavery charges secured by British Transport Police's county lines taskforce.

The arrest in Canterbury was carried out with the support of Kent Police.
