Canterbury: Video emerges of police trying to stop horse and carriage in Tourtel Road

A bizarre video has emerged of police failing to stop two men on a horse and carriage trotting along a main road.

Police were alerted after the pair were allegedly spotted riding on the wrong side of the carriageway in Rheims Way, Canterbury.

Officers tried to speak to the men but they refused to stop and made abusive gestures.

Spokesman Jon Green said: "Driving on blue lights - but no siren to avoid the horse bolting - officers tried to get the men to stop but they continued to refuse and rode on a pedestrian pathway into a residential estate.

"We are making inquiries to trace the men as they would like to speak to them in connection with possible furious riding and public order offences."

The footage shows one marked police car closely following the cart, with an unmarked car in front with its blue lights on.
