Yobs caught on CCTV smashing Volkswagen rear window with traffic cone in Canterbury

CCTV has captured the moment yobs ran away laughing after smashing a car window with a traffic cone.

The incident happened in South Street, Canterbury, and is now being investigated by police.

Footage shows a group of young people standing beside a row of parked cars.

One hooded boy then appears to pick up a cone and hurl it at a silver Volkswagen sedan.

The cone bounces off the car's roof, before smashing through its rear window.

The boy and three other teenagers then run from the scene laughing. The incident happened on Saturday.

The video - which was posted to Facebook by the victim's sister - has sparked shock from city residents.

"That's dreadful to see," said one commenter. "So sad to see this happening. They should be made to pay for damages!"

Another branded the teenagers' behaviour "disgusting", adding: "I wonder how they would feel if someone did that to their mother or father’s car! Absolutely no empathy whatsoever."

Police are investigating the incident, which happened at about 3.15pm.

A spokesman said officers have spoken to the victim and carried out a review of local CCTV.
