Crews battle Aylesham gas leak

Villagers have been warned not to light any bonfires as emergency services try to contain a gas leak.

Fire crews are still at the scene along Ratling Road in Aylesham, near Canterbury , after being called to the area at 10pm yesterday.

According to reports, the incident occurred at a site close to the village's Yodel depot.

Writing on Twitter just before 11.40am, the fire service said: "As a result of the ongoing gas leak in Ratling Road, residents of Aylesham and Nonnington are urged to please continue in keeping windows and doors closed."

Villagers were also urged last night "not light any bonfires or let off any fireworks at this time."

The fire service has been approached for comment.
