An award-winning Kent gastro pub features this afternoon (Monday) in one of television’s most popular reality shows covering the hospitality industry.
The Dog at Wingham, near Canterbury, will be one of four businesses going head-to-head in Channel 4’s Four in a Bed, where B&B owners open their doors to each other for scrutiny.
At the end of their stays, they are invited to pay what they think it was worth, based on accommodation, cleanliness, facilities and the helpfulness of the hosts.
Participants are typically super critical in searching for dust, stains, uncomfortable beds or inadequate breakfast offerings that sully their experience.
The winner is the business judged to be the best value for money.
The Dog has eight guest rooms and has won numerous awards, including repeatedly featuring in Estrella Damm’s top 50 Gastro Pubs.
It has long held two AA Rosettes for its food and is rated 4.7 stars on Tripadvisor.
Owner Marc Bridgen and general manager Matt Warren appear in the latest series, the first episode of which goes out at 5pm today.
“We had great fun travelling around the south of England filming Four in a Bed,” said Mr Bridgen.
“It was hard work and we were constantly on the go, but we were treated to some great hospitality and experiences.
“Now we’re excited to see how it comes out on TV.”
The Dog will be screening the episodes all this week at 5pm in the lounge bar and repeating the one featuring The Dog guests stay at 8pm on Thursday, October 23.
Four in a Bed is one of Channel 4’s most-watched programmes with a peak audience of 1.3 million.
