A Whitstable man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a popular Canterbury schoolboy.

Gareth Jones was arrested after Tom Brenchley died in a crash near the Thanet Way at Dargate on July 27 last year.

The 16-year-old former Archbishop’s School pupil, from Staplestreet, Hernhill suffered serious head injuries when his moped collided with a Volvo.

Jones appeared at Sittingbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with causing death by careless driving.

The case was adjourned for reports and the 48-year-old, from Hill View Road, will reappear at the same court on Tuesday, April 5.
