Woman arrested in Canterbury after armed police storm suspected brothel in Longport

A woman has been arrested after armed police stormed a suspected brothel.

Police closed off the Longport area of Canterbury for several hours yesterday, following a report of concerns for a woman in the property.

Armed officers were stationed in Longport from about 11.30am, with a police helicopter hovering overhead .

Police have now confirmed a woman in her 50s has been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences following the operation. Her case been referred to Immigration Enforcement.

KentOnline understands officers are investigating a report that the address may have been used as a brothel.

Ivy Lane, Love Lane and Longport were among roads sealed off.

One eyewitness said there were about 12 armed officers in attendance, and officers were seen with weapons trained towards a building.

Students at the nearby Canterbury College were initially advised to stay on the campus as a precautionary measure while the nature of the incident was established.
