Extinction Rebellion: Woman from Chartham near Canterbury charged after London train protests

A woman from Kent has been charged after Extinction Rebellion protesters disrupted London train services during rush hour.

Margreit Bos, of Parish Road in Chartham near Canterbury, was due to appear in court today in relation to an incident that happened at Shadwell DLR station yesterday morning, where protesters are believed to have glued themselves to a train.

The 32-year-old has been charged with "obstructing an engine or carriage on the railway".

She was due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court this morning, alongside three others - 52-year-old Martin Newell of Ivor Road in Birmingham, 77-year-old Sue Parfitt of Rectory Gardens, Bristol, and 83-year-old Philip Kingston of Blakeney Road in Patchway.

The protest at Shadwell DLR is one of several that took place across the London Underground and DLR network yesterday morning.

Two men were also arrested at Canning Town station after a Jubilee Line train was disrupted shortly after 6.45am. One man was later charged.

Two other men, both aged 32 and from Lewisham and Kingston upon Hull, were each arrested at Stratford station for obstructing the railway. They have been bailed with strict conditions, while further enquiries continue.

As British Transport Police (BTP) officers continue to investigate the incidents at Stratford and Canning Town, anyone who witnessed what happened or has mobile phone footage is asked to get in touch.
