Woman held down in car in Canterbury handbag robbery in Barton Mill Road

A woman was held down in her car while her handbag and purse were stolen in a terrifying night-time robbery carried out by two men.

The incident happened when the victim, aged in her 30s, was inside a car in Barton Mill Road, Canterbury, at about 9.30pm yesterday.

The vehicle was parked near to the River Stour with its engine running, when two men approached.

One grabbed the woman's bag, which was in the passenger footwell, while she was reportedly held in her seat by the second man.

A black-and-green faux leather handbag containing a blue purse and bank cards, a black Chanel make-up bag and make-up, car keys, and other items were stolen.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the robbery, and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area - which is just off the A28 Sturry Road - between 9.20pm and 9.50pm yesterday and saw anything suspicious.

People are also asked to get in contact if they find any of the stolen items.
