Sell-out 1,500 runners due to be involved at Sunday’s Canterbury 10-mile road race for a third successive year

A sell-out 1,500 runners are expected to be involved at the Canterbury 10-mile road race for a third year in a row this Sunday.

The race will start at 9am to help protect runners from traffic issues, although the majority of the route is on quiet lanes and farm roads.

Entrants are mainly from Kent but, also, other parts of the UK and even overseas.

The race starts and finishes in Spring Lane and the route passes through Bridge and Bekesbourne. Spectators are welcome.

Canterbury-based Invicta East Kent AC, who organise the race, have new sponsors this year in solicitors Furley Page, who are celebrating their 300th anniversary in 2025.

There are continued links with Canterbury Christ Church University, as well, who supply their Sports Centre as race headquarters and provide physio students for a pre-race and post-race massage service.

Demelza Hospice Care for Children will, once again, be the chosen charity for the race and, in partnership with the organisers, they will help to provide marshals.

All runners completing the course will receive a new bespoke medal and free photographic downloads.

Race director Glenn Mousley said: “We’re delighted to have Furley Page as our new race sponsor and are - once again - working with Eventrac race marketing software, which has been vital in helping the race to continue as the largest road race in east Kent.”

The winner for the last two years, locally-based Cole Gibbens is returning but will face serious opposition from several previous and new participants, including Ashford AC’s Marshall Smith. Smith recently ran 2hr18min for the marathon distance.

Two-time defending ladies’ champion Chelsea Baker, of Bristol & West AC, is back and will face strong opposition from Invicta East Kent’s Rebecca Weston, who recently won the Kent Cross-Country Championships.
