Daniel Bell-Drummond keeps Kent Spitfires T20 captaincy as Sam Billings and Zak Crawley return from England duty

England duo Sam Billings and Zak Crawley will play for Kent Spitfires in the T20 Blast this week.

The pair have been in the England Test squad for the series against New Zealand but they are named as part of a 15-man squad for Kent’s trips to Somerset on Tuesday and Glamorgan on Wednesday.

However, Billings will not take over the captaincy from Daniel Bell-Drummond as he has been named in the England T20 squad to face Sri Lanka later this month.

Kent said: “After the announcement that Sam Billings has been called-up to England’s IT20 squad to face Sri Lanka, he has decided to allow vice-captain Daniel Bell-Drummond to continue to skipper the side after our strong start to the competition under Daniel’s stewardship.

“He remains the club captain, a leader in the dressing room, and is focused on helping the Spitfires to more positive performances and results in this year’s competition.”

Tawanda Muyeye and Marcus O’Riordan drop out of the Spitfires squad for the next two matches while head coach Matt Walker and Bell-Drummond face tough selection decisions on who to leave out with Billings and Crawley coming back into the team.

Kent have won their first three T20 matches of this year’s competition, the latest victory a narrow five-run win over Gloucestershire on Sunday at Canterbury.
