City to host special athletics event

A SPECIAL indoor athletics event comes to Canterbury High School on Sunday afternoon with about 150 youngsters taking part.

The event is the third of four Sportshall Athletics meetings being held around the county. The event starts at 2pm.

Competitions include jumping, hurdling, running and throwing events adapted for sports halls, with the long and triple jumps, for instance, from a standing take-off rather than with a run-up. There is also an obstacle race for under-11s.

Teams from clubs and schools all over Kent have entered for the series, organised by the Kent Amateur Athletics Association.

The season ends with the county championships, at Larkfield, near Maidstone, from which a team will be selected to contest the regional and, if successful, national finals.
