Denness pitched back into the spotlight

CRICKET'S media spotlight will again fall upon former Kent and England skipper Mike Denness this weekend when he resumes his International Cricket Council match refereeing duties.

The 60-year-old Scotsman has flown out to Sharjah to officiate in the re-scheduled Test series between Pakistan and the West Indies. Denness hit the headlines during his last refereeing stint by fining six Indian players for various offenses during their Test series in South Africa.

The incident, which led to Denness being sacked from the final Test without ICC backing, will be investigated at an ICC commission hearing starting on February 23.

However, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Jagmohan Dalmiya, has already threatened to boycott the investigation.
